OBJECTIVE :

 What are factors

 What are multiples
 Prime and Composite number
What are factors ?

Factors are whole numbers that can be divided evenly into

another number.

For example:

1,3,5,15, are factors of 15 because they can all be divided

into 15 without a remainder.

15 has four factors: 1, 3, 5, and 15.

 Write the factors of the following numbers ;

a) 120
b) 42
c) 66
d) 87
e) 17

 Which numbers complete the series?

a) 105= 1, , 5, 7, , 21, , 105
b) 16 = , 2, , 4 , ,16
What is a multiple?

A multiple is a number that results when we multiply

one whole number by another whole number.
The first four multiples of 3 are 3, 6, 9 and 12
because:

3x1=3
3x2=6
3x3=9
3 x 4 = 12
3 x 5 = 15
and so on
 Answer the following in yes or no……
• 48 is a multiple of 3
• 96 is a multiple of 6
• 38 is a multiple of 4
• 100 is a multiple of 5

 Circle the correct multiple for each number…..

 15:
26,30,56
• 60:
57,78,600
Make two teams:

Ask the first team to pick up a number 1 to 50. Then ask

them to call out a factor of that number. Ask the second
team to call out a factor or multiple of called out number.
What are prime numbers?

Prime numbers are numbers with exactly 2 factors.

A prime number's only factors are 1 and the number itself.

Example: 7 is an example of a prime number. Its only

factors of 1 and 7. It is not evenly divisible by any other
whole numbers.
What is Composite Number?

A whole number that can be divided exactly by numbers

other than 1 or itself.
Example: 9 can be divided exactly by 3 (as well as 1 and 9), so
9 is a composite number.
But 7 cannot be divided exactly (except by 1and 7), so is NOT
a composite number (it is a prime number).
