LOCATION

Stating where one

thing is in relation to
another.
 Using “estar”
 We always use the verb estar to state
location.
La cama está en el dormitorio.
The bed is in the bedroom.
Yo estoy en el garaje.
I am in the garage.
Stating Distance
aquí – here
El ascensor está aquí.
ahí – there
El edificio alto está ahí.
allí – over there
Las mesas están allí.
Stating Relative Distance
o next to o al lado de
o to the right of o a la derecha de
o to the left of o a la izquierda de
o in front of o delante de
o behind o detrás de
o on top of o encima de
o below / under o debajo de
o near o cerca de
o far o lejos de
We also use estar with phrases of
relative location:

 The formula is:

 Noun + estar + phrase + de + second object.
– Alert: when the second object is masculine, de and
el must combine to form del.
 For example:
– La estufa está al lado del refrigerador.
– La estufa está al lado de la mesa.
