Two Synchronous Replication methods *
• High Availability Mode
- Source volume is available at all times.
- Uses “Check Pointing” to track changes to the source volume.
- Writes to the source volume when the destination volume in unavailable.
- Writes are “journaled” if high latency or link fails to remote site.
- Changes are sent to the remote site when link is re-established.
• High Consistency Mode
- Ensures primary volume and replica are identical.
- Writes to the host are failed if remote link is lost.
- This is how “legacy” synchronous replication works.

• Used to:
– Place new volumes on a specific Storage Center
– Migrate existing volumes from one collocated
Storage Center to another.
• Based on a scoring engine for collocated Storage
Centers
– Each Store Center is scored
– Higher scores receive volume placement priority
– Scores are not visible or customizable

Requirements
• Storage Centers must be collocated
• Storage Centers must be on the same
SCOS version
• Duplicate Tier 1 drive type
• Live Volume licensed across systems Data Center

Review Questions
1. What type of synchronous replication mode allows for writes to
keep going from the host to the primary Storage Center even if the
link between the Storage Centers has been disconnected?

2. In order to restore a volume back to the source system with its

original mapping, replay and Data Progression attributes, what needs
to be saved?

Review Questions
4. What definition must be set up before starting your first replication?
