Proximity
◦ Reminders on how to use proximity:
- Separate items that are not directly
related to each other
- Make sure you have the right amount of
space between to indicate the
importance of the relationship.
- Group your items together so it is more
clear and understandable on topics.
Alignment
Reminders about alignment
- Keep entire page unified
- Align every object in line with another object
(you may use breaks if appropriate)
- Keep to a certain side to ensure that it is not
distracting to the eye (flush left, flush right,
centered)
Repetition
◦ Reminders for repetition
◦ - Repeat some aspect of the design through
out the entire piece
◦ Font, line rule, bullet points, design elements, color,
format, and ect.
◦ - Repetition helps strengthen the readers sense
of recognition of the design
Contrast
◦ Reminders for contrast
◦ - various elements of the piece to draw
a readers eye into the page
◦ - provides focus to a specific region on
the page
Can be done by
- Font size
- Using bold/ italic
- Opposite colors
- Horizontal/vertical element
Combining Design Principals
◦ Make your own informative magazine or book page!
◦ The cover must include aspects of:

◦ - Alignment
◦ - Repetitions
◦ - Contrast
