ENGAGING THE STUDENTS

WITH TECHNOLOGY
Incorporating Technology in the Classroom
THE CHALLENGE
• Students spend majority of their school day in the classroom
• Majority of “discipline problems” originate in the classroom and often
result in removal from instruction
• Remaining engaged in instruction essential to student academic and
social success
• “Culture” of education often reinforces ineffective practices and
creates barriers to implementing effective practices
THE DEFINTION

Behavior is functionally related to the teaching

environment

• Behavior = what the student “does”

• Teaching environment = all that happens before, during, and after the
student’s behavior
ENGAGING THE STUDENT
• In order to engage the student, you must gain their interest. Pay attention to
the topics that your students like and try to incorporate them in your
classroom. Making that type of gesture will make the students feel special
because they will feel as if you really care about their interests.
RELATIONSHIPS ARE IMPORTANT!!!

• Turn a teachable moment into a COMPETETION…students are very

competitive, especially in middle school.
