FYP INTRODUCTORY PRESENTATION.
Project title:
INTERFACING BETWEEN A
PROGRAMMABLE QUADCOPTER
AND A LINE FOLLOWER ROBOT:

Project Overview:

The project has been divided into three parts, that are:
– A Programmable QUADCOPTER.
– A line follower Robot.
– Interfacing between the two.
Objective of the project:

■ The objective of this project is to make a low budget QUADCOPTER that is interfaced
with a line follower robot in order to follow the robot along with working separately for
many other applications.
PART 1:
The QUADCOPTER :
INTRODUCTION:
As the name suggests, it is basically a flying vehicle with
four electric motors and four propellers.
Now, unlike the traditional QUADCOPTER, quad relies on
its four rotors to generate uplifting thrust by working
together. Every single rotor lifts around a quarter of the
overall weight, which allows us to use smaller and less
expensive motors.
They are positioned in every corner of an imaginary square.
On one diagonal, you have two motors that rotate in a
clockwise direction, while the remaining two, on the
opposite diagonal, rotate counterclockwise.
Components Required:

■ Frame.
■ Flight Controller.
■ Motors.
■ Electronic speed controller.
■ Propellers.
■ Battery
■ ARDUINO board.
■ IMU. (A board that is basically (of choice) a sum of various sensors that help the quad know
where it is and how to level itself.)
■ RC Transmitter.
Flight Controller: (DIY)

It is the main part of the copter having following features:


■ Wireless PID tuning .
■ Position lock & altitude hold with the help of GPS.
■ This will be less costly than those of branded flight
controllers.
(A branded one costs around 2000 to 4000
rupees & that of self made costs 1500 rupees only).
Hardware components :

The required components of a flight controller are:


■ 1x MPU6050
■ 1xBMP180 or 085
■ 1x HMC5883L
■ 1x Bluetooth module HC05 or HC02
■ 1x TTL converter such as the FTDI programmer module
■ 2x Pin headers 1x40
■ 1x pre synthesized PCB 6x6cm
■ A lot of female to female wires.

Software used for programming the
QUADCOPTER:

■ The software we are using is MULTIWI.


PART 2:
A LINE FOLLOWER ROBOT:
■ It is going to be a vehicle consisting of a line follower sensor that will follow a marked
line
Hardware Components :
■ ARDUINO board .( a GPS module
connected)
■ L298N motor driver 2 channel H-
bridge.
■ 4 channel infrared line follower sensor
module.
■ Any robot car body frame.
■ 9v battery or 2 pcs 18650 li-Ion battery.
■ 12 pcs nuts & some jumper wires.
■ Long screws.
■ Motors.
Specifications of a line follower sensor:

■ Working voltage: DC 3.3v to 5v


■ Working Temp: -10֠ C to +50֠ C
■ Mounting aperture: M3 screw
■ Detection range: 1mm to 60cm (adjustable)
■ Output interface:6 wire interface
(1234 output signal ends, positive power ,negative ground)
■ Working current: more than 1A.
Software used to program the
ARDUINO :

■ The software we are using is ARDUINO.


■ The programming also includes interface of a GPS module to the ARDUINO board.
PART 3:
TO INTERFACE THE QUADCOPTER &
THE LINE FOLLOWER ROBOT:
■ This part includes the interfacing.
■ We will interface the QUADCOPTER and the robot with the help of programming
techniques.
■ As a result the QUADCOPTER will starts to follow the robot that is already following a
marked path. (line)
