Assignment
Gender Discrepancies in College Coaching

By: Brittany Archer,

Timera Brooks, Jamie
Clarke, Tessa Johnston,
Kauhlil King
Introduction
● In the school sport workplace, women remain in the minority in almost every job
category calling for the assertion of authority, leadership, and vision. Among the
college coaching ranks, taking into account all teams for male and female athletes,
women make up 20 percent of the entire workforce.
● Notably, nearly 10 percent of all departments nationwide have no women in their
administrative structure.
● No women serve as commissioners in the 11 most powerful Division I conferences
(example: ACC, SEC, Big 10, Pac-12, Big East)
● Within the NCAA itself, the higher the level of importance in the governance structure,
the lower the percentage of women involved in leadership roles.
● As barriers to women’s access to employment & success in sport continue, promising
events are occurring that may suggest that the efforts of everyone involved in sport
programs are moving toward equality.
