WHAT IS
INTERNET OF
THINGS
IOT ?
Internet of Things (IoT) is an ecosystem of connected
physical objects that are accessible through the
internet.
Objects that have been assigned an IP address and
have the ability to collect and transfer data over a
network without manual assistance or intervention.
The embedded technology in the objects helps them
to interact with internal states or the external
environment, which in turn affects the decisions
taken.
The ‘thing’ in IoT could be a
• Person with a heart monitor ,
• An automobile with built-in-sensors ,
• DNA analysis devices for environment/food
monitoring ,
• Self driving cars, whose complex sensors detect objects
in their path.
• wearable fitness devices that measure your heart
rate and the number of steps you’ve taken that day.
How IOT works ?
IOT , also sometimes referred to as the Internet of
Everything , consists of all the web-enabled devices
that collect, send and act on data they acquire from
their surrounding environments using embedded
sensors , processors and communication hardware .
These devices can talk to other relative devices
through (M2M) machine-to-machine
communication.
IOT life cycle

Collect Communicate Analyse Act

Collection
Devices and sensors are collecting data everywhere.
• At your home
• In your car
• At office
• In a manufacturing plant
Communication
Sending data and events through networks to some
destination .

• A Cloud platform
• Private data center
• Home network
Analysis
Creating information from the data using analysis tools
and algorithms.

• Visualizing the data

• Building reports
• Filtering data
ACT
Taking action based on information and data.

• Communicate with another machine M2M

• Send a notification(SMS,Email, text)
• Talk to another system
Applications of IOT
• Building and Home automation
• Manufacturing
• Medicine and healthcare system
• Wearable Devices
• Transport
• Education
• Agriculture and Environment
• Energy engagement
• Smart retail
• Smart Cities
