Wrought iron (1538⁰C)

Wrought iron is one of the ferrous metals that is an alloy that is

almost pure iron.Has a carbon content of less than 0.08
percent
Used as home decoration
2. Cast iron (1200 ⁰C)

Is a very strong metal when it is in compression and is also very

brittle. It consist of 93% iron and 4% carbon plus other elements.
Used as car brake disc, car cylinder, metalwork vices, manhole
covers.
3. High Carbon Steel (1800 ⁰C)

 it is very strong and very hard steel that has a high resistance to
abrasion. It properties up to 1.5% carbon content so it is very tough.
Used for hand tools such as screwdrivers, hammers,
chisels,saws,springs and garden tool.
4. Stainless steel (1400 ⁰C)

 Very resistant to wear and water corrosion and rust. It is an alloy of

iron with a typical 18%, chromium 8% and 8% magnesium content.
Used for kitchen sinks, cutlery, teapots, cookware and surgical
instrument.
Limitation

• Poor corrosion resistance

• Cast iron must be preheated prior to welding. It cannot be worked
cold.
• Wrought iron has low hardness.
