PRACTICAL RESEARCH 1

By Jason D. Arellano
What do you think is our topic about?
• surveys books, scholarly articles,
and any other sources relevant to a
particular issue, area of research, or
theory, and by so doing, provides a
description, summary, and critical
evaluation of these works in
relation to the research problem
being investigated.
• It provides an overview of
sources explored while
researching a particular topic
and to demonstrate to readers
how research fits within a larger
field of study.
LITERATURE REVIEW
PURPOSE OF THE LITERATURE REVIEW
1. Define and Limit the Problem
2. Place the Study in Perspective
3. Avoid unintentional replication of studies
4. Select methods and measures
5. Relate findings for previous knowledge and
suggest areas for further research
Expert Tips
• Do not include everything you find
in the literature review
• Only the works that are directly
related to the study must be
reviewed
• Always find meaning to the
literatures.
• A Review of the Related Literature
provides a concise summary of
information and data findings that
describe current knowledge and
facts. It offers a rationale for
conducting future researches.
• An important area of a literature
review is an understanding of a gap.
It is an important research question
relevant to a given domain that has
not been answered adequately or at
all in existing peer-reviewed
scholarship
• .A gap will hopefully ensure that
the research will likely have
valuable practical and/or
theoretical implications.
• Synthesis and generalization as the
last important area of literature lead
to the identification and purpose of
the proposed study.
• In all reviews, some
recommendations or implications
for practice, education and research
should be included
