Experiment

EDU 214
Question:
Which ice will melt the fastest?
Which ice will take the slowest to melt?
Materials:
• Small cups
( I used shot glasses )
• 6 Compartment Muffin
tin
• Water
• Sugar
• Salt
Hypothesis:

• I think the hot water will melt first & the

control will take longer.
• Brother- The salt one will melt the fastest & the
steam will be the slowest
• Sister- The steam will melt the fastest & the
control will be last.
Procedure:
1. Fill cups with water, freeze overnight
2. Take out the ice out of the cups
3. Place one in each of the compartments
in the muffin tin
4. Pour hot water in one, cold water in
another and steam in another
5. Pour sugar in one, salt in another and
leave one alone so that can act as the
control
Data:
Each one of the Ice: After 5 minutes After 15 minutes After 30 minutes
Cold Water Melted slow Melted half way Only water
Hot water Melted fast Tiny piece left Only water
sugar Melted very little Only melt the top Melted the top half
Salt Salt was freezing Hole in the middle Continue a hole
Steam Melting drops Melting slow Melted half way
Control Did not do much Melt a little Melted half way
Data Pictures
Conclusion:
• I thought the hot water was going to be the fastest to melt and it was
the cold water as well. The slowest one to melt was the control. But it
was between the sugar & control.
• Brother- He was wrong about the salt being the fastest, it was both
the hot water & cold at the 30 minute mark.
• Sister- She was wrong about the steam being the fastest one , she
thought the hot water was the fastest. The slowest one was the sugar
because it only melted the top.
