 DEATH'S DIARY: 1942

 Death appears to be tired of the Second World War
and its deaths. He wants vacations.
 It talks about «the increase of production of bodies
and their escaping souls» during the war.
 Describes all the destruction caused by the war; the
homeless people that ask him to kill them.
 AN ABRIDGED ROLL
CALL FOR 1942

 Its Christmas and Liesel now is 13 years old.
 She brings pots of snow to the basement in order to
build an snowman with Max.
 Later in the chapter, it is shown that max´s health is
deteriorating.
 A time «jump» is taken to February 1942, it is shown
how Max´s health deteriorated over time; he ended
up collapsing, leaving him unconscius.
 In order to take better care to Max, Liesel´s family
take Max to her room reomving him of the basement.
 THIRTEEN PRESENTS

 Five days later: Max wakes up but briefly.
 Death was in Liesel´s room for Max in order to take
his soul but as he woke up, Death withdrew.
 Liesel starts reading him (as he was unconscius) a
book called «The Whistler».
 Liesel starts giving presents to Max such as toys and
others.
 At the end of the chapter, Liesel ends reading the
book she was reading for Max.
 FRESH AIR, AN OLD NIGHTMARE, AND
WHAT TO DO WITH A
JEWISH CORPSE


 Liesel and Rudy return to Mayor´s house again in
order to steal a book again. She finds one called «The
Dream Carrier».
 Deaths that Ilsa leaves the window of the house open
on purpose in order for Liesel and Rudy to enter
once again.
 Liesel hears Hans and Rosa talking about what to do
with Max´s body. Later, she has a nightmare in
which sees Max´s death.
 Max definitely wakes up.

COLOGNE

Death describes the situation
in a bombing raid on a German
City.
30 500 people died that day.
 THE VISITOR

 Liesel, when playing soccer, notices that a group of
German soldiers are registering houses searching for
hidden Jews.
 Inetably, Liesel couldn´t advise Hans and Rosa; they
realized very late about what was going to happen.
 Soldiers, register the house and find nothing.
 Max hid on his own succesfully.
 THE SCHMUNZELER

There is only a little interaction
between Liesel and Rudy.
Rudy teases Liesel on her
bedroom, he got kicked out
 DEATH'S DIARY: THE
PARISIANS

 Death, again, describes the horrible situation that
those who were left inside gas chambers had to live.
 He does not understand the idea of the gas
chambers.
 Death describes its desolation on June 23, 1942, the
first day of operation at the gas gambers in
Auschwitz.
