IN SHEET METAL TECHNOLOGY

 Swaging machines got their name from the


French word "souage" to mean "ornamental
groove”.
 Swaging are used for shaping of a metal item
 Swaging is accomplished by hammering the
metal stock while it is held on the anvil within
any one of various concave tools called
swages.
 Swages are formed on cylindrical objects to
serve as
 Stiffeners
 Reinforcement
 Ornamentation
 The standard shapes of swage are the
 single swage
 Ogee(double curve) swage
 Triple swage
 The swaging process will have two categories
the extrusion and the swaging machine which
is rotary machine equipped with special
swaging rolls.
 In sheet metal technology mostly we use
rotary machine.
 The machine may be either hand or power
operated.
 The handling shaft; apron, swages or rolling
die tool and the casing frame are the main
part in hand operating.
 While in power operate machine there will be
a pulley that connects the shaft with the
motor and transfer motion .The motor can
also be listed as a part of the machine. Gear
system will also be used if the machine
supports speed changing mechanisms.
Types of Rolling Wheels types
Crimping: - This wheel has a structure of a gear and used to make a
corrugated shape on the sheet metal. This method is used to make
one side of the metal shortened than the other side. So that our sheet
metal can be connect to other sheet metal if it is in a pipe form.
Jogging:-This roll is used when it is needed to widen a diameter of
some extent of cylindrical metal. To make other metal to fit in to it.
As the machine advance and becomes in industrial level it will use
additional tools. To list some
Feeding system: - as the area of operation advances it will be tire
some to hold and wait until the process is complete. So an automated
feed system can be applies that can supply a metal when the prior
process is complete.
Machine Base: - Some computer programmed switches will be
attached to the machine base like that controls the feed system. In
addition to this the machine can get its best support from this base.
Mandrel device: A hydraulic device which is used to push the metal
which is feed to the rolls.
Controls: - CNC systems can be installed as an operating
mechanism.
The Basic Operation with Rolling Swaging
SWAGING A WIDE DIAMETER PIPE. The sheet metal can be in the form

rolls by loosening top roll adjusting screw.
SWAGING CYLINDERICAL WITH FULL GROOVED JOINTS
SWAGE MALE AND FEMALE OPERATION:– The male and female
method in the sheet metal is used to join different sheet metal by
making the first sheet metal on the second one to join them together.
The swages might be in joined internal or external swage Depending
on the process which is going to be used in the manufacturing step.
When the two sections of the metals are assembled together the male
swage sits neatly into the female swage forming an interlocking joint.
An allowance of Material usually 3 to 5 mm must add to the length of
the metal to allow for each swage.
