INTRODUCTION
Odiorne point is the largest undeveloped stretch
of shore on new Hampshire's eighteen mile
coast. Odiorne offers an extensive array of
habitats. Fresh water systems are represented
within the park by a man-made pond and
marsh. Remnants of formal gardens and
wildflowers grow side by side; and the man-
made military bunkers lie hidden under
mounds of earth
Mission/Background
• When the center opened in 1992, it was
considered a model of public/private
partnership.
• Managed by the Audubon society of new
Hampshire.
• In 2001, the center became an independent
non-profit organization.
Mission Statement
The seacoast science center, located in
historically rich odiorne point state park,
provides exceptional learning experiences in
the natural sciences through dynamic and
innovative programs and exhibits.
Value statement
We hold the following values as guidelines for
the organization. We strive to :-
• Create environments in which learning is fun.
• Practice what we teach: caring for animals,
people, the park & the gulf of maine.
• Hold our interpretive and business practices to
high standards.
• Approach everything we do with a sense of
honesty, integrity and understanding.
• Help each other to whatever it takes to
support the organization.
• Encourage experimentation and build from
lessons learning.
Vision statement
The seacoast science center will become the
preeminent leader in informal science education in
northern New England.
To do this, we will focus on the following themes
in exhibits, programs and practice:-
• Connect people to the natural world around them.
• Interpret climate change to demonstrate the
dynamic properties of natural systems.
• Place people and human activities in an
environmental context.
Sponsoring organizations
Three sponsors had recently undergone organizational
change:-
Division of parks and recreation (parks)-
• the desired visitor experience encouraged interaction
with nature and was non-commercial and
providing /promoting parks had been considered
inappropriate.
• Financial management involved cost control rather
than revenue generation through increased visitation.
Audubon society of New Hampshire:-
it was an independent non profit organization,
separate from both the national Audubon
society and the New Hampshire state
government.
Friends of Odiorne point Inc
(friends):-
• The friends began as a small group of
volunteers in 1966. interest in marine education
and the park led local residents to serve.
• The friends had 650 members who paid dues
at graduated levels beginning at $25.
• Howard crunch had been a director of friends
since its incorporation and represented the
friends on the leadership committee.
Conclusion
this case shows the progress of seacoast
science center.
how it began and got the position at which it
is today.
