Kidney anatomy (listening practice). Lexical Test 4. Medical specialists. Hospital wards and departments. 5. Medical equipment and instruments. Sterile procedures 6 Illnesses. Symptoms of illnesses. Lexical Test 7. Acute and chronic diseases. Accidents and first aid 8.Healthy lifestyle. Balanced diet. 9. Infection control. Desinfectants and antiseptics Content (continued) 10. Causative agents: bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, helminths. 11. Basic investigations. Lexical test 12. Instrumental tests. Endoscopy. ECG 13. Radio therapy. Communicating with patients. 14. Radio diagnostics: X-ray and CT. Lexical test 15. MRI and ultrasound. 16. Radiological safety. Self-study work presentation • Examination Midterm Assessments • 4 Interim Tests – the last week in September, the third week in October, the second week in November, the first week in December. • Examination – in January An INDIVIDUAL TASK for SELF-STUDY: A presentation on the topic about diagnostic testing or radiotreatment ( e.g. Body tests and radiological treatments, bone density tests, UV radiation, X-ray radiation, Magnetic resonance, Ultrasound, Apparatus techniques: CT scanner, X-ray machines, Ultrasound scanner, Positron emission tomography, Radiotherapy, etc.)
1. To produce a topic, independently selecting material from an article, book
or different sources of information (to read not less than 3 pages) 2. To write a summary of the studied topic (1 page) 3. To produce a vocabulary of important medical terms used in the selected texts (not less than 50 terms) 4. To hand in the prepared self-study folder including the title page in English, the studied literature, a summary, the vocabulary of terms – the second week in December 5. To speak on the topic in class (presentation using the PowerPoint program would be an advantage) Objectives of the English self-study
• the appropriate use of the studied medical
vocabulary; • ability to use the vocabulary in context; • development of communication skills; • correct use of grammatical categories; • encouragement of creativity, initiative and independence; • encouragement of the use of IT skills. English self-study work assessment criteria: • The use of medical vocabulary 20% • Logical sequence, consistency, creativity 30% • Grammatical correctness 20% • Language fluency (speaking, but not reading) 20% • Correct pronunciation 10%
