SCIENTIFIC NOTATION;
• DEFINITION:
• It is a way of writing a large number or
small number in a short or long form.

• It is a short hand method trough which we can


simplify numbers

• E.g( 9.32×10 4 = 9.3200)


(0.0000456 = 4.56×10 5)
• RULES:
• Rule 1;
• the base is always 10
• Rule 2;
• the exponent is a non-zero integer (+or -).
• Rule 3;
• the absolute value of the coefficient is greater
than or equal to 1 and strictly less than 10.
• Rule 4;
• the exponent carries the sign (+ or - ).
