Five problems to

solve in an
English class
By teacher Martha Mendivelso
Like a teacher we face
some problems like:
1. The institution that you work for asks you to use
more English in class, the level of your students is
not very high so what can you do to fulfill the
requirement of the school?
2. In your class there is a group of 4 students that
always work together but they are not well behaved
doing so, they make a lot of noise and indiscipline,
what can you do to improve the situation?
3. In your class there are some student who say that
they hate English and that they don’t want to learn
it, so they are not engaged in the activities. What
can you do to motivate them?
4. Students use cellphones in class and don`t pay
attention so as a teacher what can I do ? I would
ask students to use their devices and cellphones to
develop the activities, how ?
5. You are a teacher who work in a public school
and there are not TICs to practice English what can
you do to help students to get the aims?
1. The institution that you work for asks you to
use more English in class, the level of your
students is not very high so what can you do to
fulfill the requirement of the school?

To solve this problem we must give

instructions using body language, mimic, giving
examples on the board, we could also answer
using English and give extra points for those
kids who use English all the time. Asking also to
listen to and watch videos in English at home is
a good idea.
2. In your class there is a group of 4 students
that always work together but they are not well
behaved doing so, they make a lot of noise and
indiscipline, what can you do to improve the
situation?
• A teacher can grouping learners in different
activities , we would say which students
must work in a class activity and I would
change for the next those students , we could
create activities where students have to
move and have interaction with many other
students but also there must be whole class
activities
3. In class there are some student who say that
they hate English and that they don’t want to
learn it, so they are not engaged in the
activities. What can you do to motivate them?

• I could show some videos of famous people

who have learnt English to get their goals
also I asked students about their likes and
ask students to do a video about their likes
in English, another activity could be ask
students to be in a Chat in English to meet
someone in another country like the teacher
did with the e- pal , and with teens I could
search readings about the advantages of
learning English for a better future.
4. Students use cellphones in class
and don`t pay attention so as a
teacher what can we do ?
• We would ask students to use their devices
and cellphones to develop the activities, how
? Recording their voices, creating dialogues,
doing presentations about the topics, getting
a dictionary and using messenger to practice
English
5. You are a teacher who work in a
public school and there are not TICs to
practice English what can you do to help
students to get the aims?
• Innovating with cheap resources can be the
solution , teach students how to make
accessories and costumes with paper and
recyclable materials, ask students to draw
and use these resources , teach how create
puppets with paper bags and searching for
games where there is not necessary spent a
lot of money is a good way.
There are more than five problems in a
class but there are more than one
option to solve them just search for
help and use your skills and
knowledge.
