Now That I Can Read Tell Me Where

I used to sit and listen By: Myra R. Labay
To somebody as they read
Oh, please tell me where things are.
I’d look at every picture Where is the clock that alarms like a cock?
On the pages they read. Where is the pan where I heat my bun?
Where is the frame of my Mama Dame?
I think that picture is important Where is the wig that I’ll give to Dig?
Because I can feel what they read
Here they are, here they are!
By looking at the picture Look around and find where they are.
I know what the story is.
The clock is above the cabinet so it won’t
But now that I am in first grade be wet.
The pan is below the stove just beside the
I’m collecting a lot of books
chef’s glove.
Still with pictures of poem, stories The frame is above the TV where everyone
And other books can see.
Now that I can read The wig is below the dresser so you can
see it closer.
I don’t just look at the pictures
Put things in order so you can see them
I now can talk with them better.
Because it’s fun reading and imagining Time will not be wasted in looking for the
The characters in my books things you wanted.
