Definition

Handicrafts are the creative products made by the skill of


the hand without the help of modern machinery and
equipments.
Indian handicrafts could be broadly divided into three
categories:
 folk crafts.
 religious crafts.
 commercial crafts.
KVIC

Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has


sanctioned the first ever Khadi Plaza in the country to be
set up at NE Agri Expo centre, 4th Mile, Dimapur.
Aim is to propagate the activities of the KVIC for mass
awareness and also to provide exposure to the artisans and
entrepreneurs to showcase their products and share the
technical know-how among themselves.
The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is a statutory

body formed by the GOI. It is an apex organization under Ministry of


Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Govt. of India), with regard to
Khadi and village industries within India, which seeks to - "plan,
promote, facilitate, organize and assist in the establishment and
development of Khadi and village industries in the rural areas in
coordination with other agencies engaged in rural development
wherever necessary.

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) is

a statutory body established by an Act of Parliament (No.


61 of 1956, as amended by act no. 12 of 1987 and Act
No.10 of 2006. In April 1957, it took over the work of
former All India Khadi and Village Industries Board.
PRODUCTS
PRODUCTS

Khadi- Cotton Khadi is 100% cotton which has a great


demand abroad and it is available in different shades and
colours . Attractive readymade garments are being
designed in the form Kurta- paijama,shirts, Ghagra Choli,
salwar-khammeez and other attractive garments.

Silk Khadi- Silk Khadi comes in various categories like


Tussar, Matka etc.

Wollen Khadi Wollen Khadi items consisting of sweaters,


Mufflers, Blankets, Socks.

Polyvastra Khadi -Polyvastra Khadi consisting of shirting


and suitings in attractive shades and designs.

Leather- Leather products range include footwear like


Kolhapuri chappals, sandals, shoes and purses, briefcase,
jewel bags, vanity bags, attractive readymade garments etc.

Cane and bamboo- Fancy utility articles by using can and


bamboo like furniture, sofa set, partition wall mats ,
handicrafts, items etc.

Agarbatti- Incense sticks with fragrance are available in


different varieties, Incense sticks are made by women workers.

Processed Fruit Products- This is one of the activity taken up


by the institutions and co-operative societies financed by the
Commission. Products like Mango pulp. Tomato Pulp , juices,
Chatni etc.

Honey- There are 2 types of honey produced


One by the bees produced in forest AND installing colonies of
bees

Hand-made Paper- This is a beautiful product uses the


cloth rags and waste paper as raw material.

Long product life. 100 years or more.


Uniqueness in texture.

Environmentally friendly, does not use wood pulp as raw


materials and hence save trees.

Khadi plaza is now has a large number of retail chain in
all over India.
In an effort to compete with the swanky retail malls that
are mushrooming across the country.
KVIC is planning to upgrade and embellish its marketing
outlets.

Exclusive franchise shop: The brand and goodwill of


Khadi is ‘Franchised’ to a particular showroom which in
turn entitles the showroom to use the Khadi logo and put
‘Display Boards’ like ‘Khadi Shop’ – ‘Khadi Gramodyog
Bhavan’ etc. with POP materials as approved by KVIC.
This system enables to have a large number of exclusive
Khadi sales outlets with logo and signage of Khadi.

Franchise limited to one or more sales counters in

showrooms: Super markets and departmental stores are at


times interested in having an ‘Exclusive Sales Counter’
for KVI products, in such cases a limited franchise is
extended to such showrooms with the condition that no
rebate will be allowed on sale of Khadi items.

Reasons for better handicrafts retailing

 For creating better business opportunities to farmers

 To expose the rural hand made to every one.

 Handicraft industry has an immense opportunities and a huge

untapped market though demand is there but it lacks supply.


 It will start form the infusion of money, and will result in

development of rural sector and will lead to emergence of new


market.
