Introduction
Bio = Life, Metrics = Measurement
Technology based on statistical measurement of life.
At present distinguishing “The right person“ from an imposter is
the key to security and trust.
It uses individuals unique biological trait to determine ones
identity.
These traits include finger prints, iris pattern, facial characters
etc.
Two types:
Behavioral- characters acquired over time
speaker recognition, signature…
Physical- measures physical characteristic
finger prints, facial recognition…
Speaker recognition
Based on individuals voice.
Depends on physical structure of individuals vocal track
and behavioral characteristic.
Speech sample can be selected by telephone n/w and
computer microphone.
Cond…

Text dependent uses HMM model.

Text independent uses Gaussian mixture model.
The analog signals will be converted to digital
signal.
The signals will be split into multiple states.
It will be compared with both identified and
unidentified speakers.
Calculates a likelihood ratio based upon this the
system will respond.
Iris recognition
Recognizes a person by analyzing random pattern of
iris.
Coloration and structure of the iris is genetically linked
but the pattern is not.
The iris shape and its features are imaged.
High quality digital camera which uses NIR is employed
The image is passed into 2D Gabor wavelet filter and
maps the segments of the iris as phasors.
The phasors contain the orientation and spatial
frequency of iris.
This information is converted into iriscodes.
Iriscodes are madeup of 256 bytes.
The difference(HD) between 2 iriscodes is calculated.
If HD is < 1/3rd of bytes in iriscodes, then it is matched.
Finger prints
Uses hand finger print as source.
It usually contains a series of dark lines represent high
peak ridges, the white space between the ridges are
valleys.
Its mainly based on minutiae or location and direction of
ridge edges and bifurcations along the ridge path.
Optical sensors captures the finger prints
There are 2 categories for comparing
pattern matching-checks how similar the
patterns are
Minutiae matching-relates on minutiae points.
Vascular pattern recognition
Uses vein patterns for recognition.
NIR generated from LEDs are passed to the back of the
hands.
Light will be absorbed (black) and reflected (white).
The reflected light is captured by the sensors and sent to
image processing software.
They reproduce the exact vascular patterns.
These patterns includes vein branch points, vein thickness
and branching angles.
Applications
Personal data privacy
Confidential financial transaction
Work station
Network and Domain access
Remote access to resource
Biometrics in India
As India is under constant threats of
terrorism and security breach, its adopting
various biometrics technologies as follows,
 Defense and security industry
 Police administration
 Finance ministry (PANs)
 Home affairs (IDs)
 Libraries
Conclusion
There are other biometric techniques like palm pattern
recognition, face recognition, retinal recognition.
www.Bioenabletech.com suppliers of biometrics
instruments.
Technology is growing rapidly and at the same time
security breaches and transaction frauds are also
increased.
All agencies who are in need of security, surveillance and
safety have to adopt biometrics.
This presentation is aimed to give you an intro about the
future technology (coming soon!!!!!!!!!!!!)
