INTRODUCTION-

Electromagnetic braking means applying brakes using electronic and

magnetic power. Here we use the principle of electromagnetism to achieve friction
less braking. This tends to increase the life span and reliability of brakes since no
friction leads to less wearing out of brakes. Also it requires less maintenance and
oiling. This is an upcoming technological replacement for traditional braking systems.
The main purpose behind the proposed use of these brakes in vehicles is that
it is frictionless. This leads to a less maintenance cost due to no friction and no oiling.
Also traditional braking systems are prone to slipping while this one is guaranteed to
apply brakes to the vehicle. So without friction or need of lubrication this technology
is a preferred replacement for traditional braking. Also it is quite smaller in size
compared to the traditional braking system.

LITERATURE REVIEW-

Sr. Name OF Author Publication Work

No. & Year
1. Mr. Nitish Kulkarni. JOMCE In this paper he has said about
(Dec. 2016) the setup of Electromagnetic
Braking System and its
working.
2. Mr. Mars Mukesh. IJIRSET Author has studied on
(Apr. 2014) Electromagnetic Braking
System and said we can use it
in commercial vehicle by
making some improvements in
the brake.

4
3. Mr. Krunal Prajapati. IJSRE Author has said, use this brake
(Mar. 2017) to avoid highly produce
accident.

4. Mr. Jitendra Patel. IRJET In this paper he has said, if

(Apr. 2018) making a few upgrades in the
brakes it can utilized as a part
of vehicles in future and future
of this brake.

5
PROBLEM STATEMENT-

• The conventional brake system consists of a lot of moving parts and is based on the
principle of friction thus a lot of forces dissipated in the form of heat due to friction and
the links involved.

6
OBJECTIVES-

• The main objective of our project is to control the speed of the vehicle as
well as to stop it and efficiently without skidding. By using electromagnetic
braking, we can reduce the reaction time of braking.

7
EXPERIMENTAL SETUP-

Sprocket

Electromagnet Battery

Chain

Motor Table
Bearing

Aluminum
Disc
8
WORKING-

When power supply is on the electromagnet is energized, magnetic field is

produced there by applying brake by retarding the rotation of the disc and
the energy absorbed is appeared as heating of the disc.

So when the armature is attracted to the field the stopping torque is

transferred into the field housing and into the machine frame decelerating
the load. The AC motor makes the disc to rotate through the shaft by means
of pulleys connected to the shaft.

9
MERITS-

1) Friction less.
2) Low maintenance.
3) No lubrication.
4) No wearing of brakes.
5) Very reliable.
6) Very less effort is required to apply the brake.

10
CONCLUSION-
During the making of this project presentation “ Fabrication of
Electromagnetic brake” , we got lot of information and knowledge about this brake, its
construction, working and principle and how the brake action take place.
we are sure that while doing this project we will came across various
manufacturing process which we learn in book their actual meaning. Techniques of this
braking system save the effort of the human being at the maximum level which provide
the comfort to the rider of the vehicle as this.
As this brake is require external power source of battery and it require to
charge every time to overcome this problem one can use dynamo for the charging of the
power source it generated itself by the vehicle.

11
FUTURE SCOPE-

1.MILLING MACHINE -

In a milling machine the vertical axis is typically driven into position

by a lead screw. Once in position it is critical that the load stay put. A brake

is used to simply hold the screw from rotating and moving. Nearly all

applications fall within one of these three categories.

2.ROBOTICS -

Electromagnetic brake can position and hold robotic equipment.

Hence, emergency braking in the event of power loss can prevent damage

10 equipment.
