COMPOSITE STEEL DECK GIRDER DESIGN

PREPARED BY:

COMPOSITE BRIDGE
• the steel structure of a bridge is fixed to the concrete
structure of the deck so that the steel and concrete act
together to reduce deflections and increase strength.

• it is done by using shear connectors fixed to the steel beams

and then embedded in the concrete.
COMPOSITE STEEL DECK GIRDER DESIGN
• the steel deck & girder is fixed to the concrete structure of the bridge so that
the steel and concrete act together to reduce deflections and increase
strength.

• it is done by using shear connectors fixed to the steel beams and then
embedded in the concrete.
• consists of steel girders which support a reinforced concrete slab.
Composite action is achieved by connecting both materials by shear studs.
TYPES OF STEEL DECK GIRDER BRIDGE

• BOX-GIRDER BRIDGE - the bridge girder section is in

the form of box
• PLATE GIRDER BRIDGE - also called I section bridge
ADVANTAGE OF COMPOSITE BRIDGE
• they are economical, from the point of view of construction
and operation
• they offer numerous possibilities in terms of architectural
design
• they result in shorter construction times
• they are also suited to restricted construction depths
• they help reduce construction costs, because the reduced
weight of the bridges enables the use of smaller supports
and foundations
• they enable the industrial fabrication of construction
components under strict quality control conditions in
workshops sheltered from bad weather
• they are easy to maintain, because the structural
components are readily accessible for inspection and
maintenance work
• they are flexible because they can be adapted at any time
and at low cost to changes in requirements
APPLICATIONS

• RAILWAY BRIDGES
• ROADWAY BRIDGES
• PORTS
