PURPOSE OF
DAMS
• Generation of Hydropower electricity
• For agricultural and irrigation purposes
• For fishery
• To prevent the flooding during high water flows
• To diverse the water maintaining required
heights
EARTH DAMS
Typically created by the placement and
compaction of a complex semi-plastic
mound of various composition of soil, sand,
clay, or rock. It has a semi-pervious
waterproof natural covering for its surface
and a dense, impervious core.
Tarbela Dam

ROCK DAMS
Is a type of embankment dam which comprises
primarily compacted rock materials. The
impervious zone may be on the upstream face
of masonry, concrete, plastic membrane, timber
or other materials. The impervious zone may
also be within the embankment in which case it
is referred to as a core.
Magat Dam
Location : Alfonso Lista, Ifugao / Ramon, Isabela
Construction began : 1978
Height : 114 meters (374 ft) from river level
Length : 4,160 meters (13,650 ft)
Surface area : 11.7 km² (4.5 mi²)
Maximum Water depth : 193 m
