AGENDA
• To design a switching buck regulator in
Multisim which complies to the following
specifications:
– Input voltage of 9-24 V
– Output current load of 1.5-2A
– Output power load of ~10W
– Output Voltage: 5V
• To observe and plot the output voltage
regulation of the circuit design
DESIGN DIAGRAM
The main idea
behind the design is
presented
by a design diagram.

This diagram is the

base design
reference for the
Final Circuit Design

The switching buck converter design consists of a Power

Stage, Feedback, and the Controller Circuit.
POWER STAGE

State 1(b): Switch is

on; Input charges
inductor

State 2(a): Switch is

off; Inductor holds up
output
CONTROLLER CIRCUIT: PWM Generator
The Control
technique for
the DC-DC
converter uses
a Ramp
Generator
compared with
the Error
voltage to
produce a
PWM signal.
PRE-DESIGN

• The design is configured to give the

desired output. (5V)
• Problem: Linear Regulation

The Buck Converter design was tested on varying loads. Higher load gives
better voltage regulation.
