• Biocon is India's leading integrated


biotechnology enterprise focused on the
development of biopharmaceuticals.
•Its inception Biocon has evolved from an
enzyme manufacturing company to a fully
integrated biopharmaceutical enterprise.

•Dr. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw is the founder of


Biocon company.
 In 1978, it is Biocon’s Founding Day - the start of a
biorevolution in India.
 In 1979, Biocon became the first Indian company to
manufacture and export enzymes to USA and
Europe.
 In 1998, Biocon became an independent entity.
 In 2000, Biocon established Clinigene, India's first
Clinical Research Organisation (CRO) to pursue
clinical research and development.
 In 2003, Biocon becomes the first company
worldwide to develop human insulin on a Pichia
expression system.
 In 2005, Biocon signed a commercial agreement
for supply of insulin API to Asia, Africa and the
Middle East.
 In 2006, Biocon inaugurated Biocon Biopharmaceuticals,
India's largest multi-product Biologics facility at Biocon
Park. It also launched India's first anti-cancer drug BIOMAb
EGFR®.
 In 2008, Biocon acquired a 78% stake in German
pharmaceutical company, AxiCorp GmbH for a consideration
of €30 Million.
Also it became the 7th largest biotech employer in the world.
 In 2009 & 2010, Biocon and HCG group of hospitals joined
hands to fight against cervical and also with Bayer to create
awareness for self monitoring for diabetics respectively.
 In 2012, Biocon became the only Asian Company to feature in
the Global Top 20 Bio Pharma Employers, by Science
Magazine.
 In 2013, Biocon ranked at No. 6 among Top 20 Global Biotech
Employers by the Science Magazine.

 In 2014, Syngene, a subsidiary of Biocon Group, in


collaboration with Baxter sets up a dedicated Research and
Development Center at Biocon Park.
KIRAN MAZUMDAR-SHAW

 Born on 23rd March, 1953 in


Banglore.
 She had her schooling at
Bishop Cotton Girls School and
Mount Carmel College at
Bangalore.
 After doing her B.Sc. in
Zoology from Bangalore
University in 1973, she went to
Ballarat University in
Melbourne, Australia and
qualified as a master brewer.
 Kiran Mazumdar Shaw started her
professional career as trainee brewer in
Carlton & United Beverages in 1974. In
1978, she joined as Trainee Manager
with Biocon Biochemicals Limited in
Ireland.
 In the year 1978, Kiran Mazumdar Shaw
founded Biocon India in collaboration
with Biocon Biochemicals Limited, with
a capital of Rs.10,000.
 In the year 2004, she became India’s
Richest Woman.
 She has huge collection of paintings and
artworks.
 Also, she has written a coffee table book
named “Ale and Arty”- the story of beer.
