WHAT IS EMBEDDED SYSTEM?

 Embedded system is the combination of Hardware and

Software
 An embedded system contain many types of
components such as
inductors,capacitors,resistors,transformers,LCD,LED,
etc
 It also contain a
Microprocessor,Mocrocontroller,Memory unit-RAM &
ROM
SOFTWARE & HARDWARE
 Computer hardware is any physical device used in our
machine, whereas software is a collection
of code installed onto your computer's hard drive.
 Software performs a specific task by giving an ordered
set of programmatic instructions to hardware.
Hardware serves as the delivery system for software
solutions.
 Hardware cannot function until software is loaded and
software is installed in hardware to set the programs in
action.
HARDWARE COMPONENTS
 Hardwres components are two types –Active and
Passive components.
 There are three basics type of hardware components-
Resistors, Capacitors and Inductors
 Another types of Components are-
Relays, Transformers, Diodes, Transistors etc
Some more and important hardware component is
IC’s which is very faster, cheaper , smaller and low
costs.
MICROCONTROLLER INTERFACING
 There interfacing are various components and are
given in figure.
 Microcontrollers are also various types such as
Families Of Microprocessor
 1st Generation: This was the period during 1971 to 1973 of
microprocessor’s history.Example-Intel 4004,Intel 8008 etc
 2nd Generation: This was the period during 1973 to 1978 in which very
efficient 8-bit microprocessors were implemented.Example-
8080,8085,Motorola 6800 & 6801 etc.
 3rd Generation: During this period 16 bit processors were created and
designed using HMOS technology. From 1979 to 1980, INTEL
8086/80186/80286 and Motorola 68000 and 68010 were developed.
 4th Generation: From 1981 to 1995 this generation developed 32 bit
microprocessors by using HCMOS fabrication. Example-INTEL 80386
and Motorola’s 68020/68030 were the popular processors.
Advantages & Disadvantages of
Embedded System
 Advantages-
 The size of embedded System are very small as compared to
computer/other computational products.
 The power consumption by embedded devices to operate is very low.
 The embedded devices are also called Real time devices, as the response of the
embedded devices is very instant.

• Disadvantages-
 High development effort
 Hard to move to one Machine to another.
 Hard to take backup files.
 Larger time to market.
Applications of Embedded System
