Cop of vapour compression cycle

Introduction :
 The most common refrigeration cycle in used today.
 Vapour compression refrigeration system is based on vapour compression
cycle.
 Vapour compression refrigeration system is widely used method for air
conditioning of buildings and automobiles. It is also used in domestic and
commercial refrigerators .Large scale warehouses for child or frozen
storage.
The vapour compression cycle.

 These are the four principal control volumes involving these components.

1. Evaporator
2. Compressor
3. Condenser
4. Expansion valve.
Vapour compression cycle.

 The processes for these cycle are.

Processes 4-1:
Two phase liquid vapour mixture
of refrigerant is evaporatored
through heat transfer from the
refrigerated space.
Vapour compression cycle.
 Process 1-2 :
Vapour refrigerant is compressed to a relatively high temperature and

Pressure requiring work input.

 Process 2-3 :
Vapour refrigerant condenses

to liquid through heat transfer to

the cooler. Surroundings.

Vapour compression cycle.

 Process 3-4:
Liquid refrigerant expands to the

evaporator pressure.
The vapour compression cycle :
The vapour compression cycle.

Engineering model:
 Each component is analyzed as a control volume at stead y
. State.
 Dry compression is presumed, the refrigerant is a vapour.
 The compressor operates adiabatically.
 The refrigerant expands through the valve under goes a tthrottlig
. Process.
 Kinetic and potential energy changes are ignored.
Coefficient of performance (COP)

It is the performance parameter of simple vapour compression cycle. If

Refrigerating effect is increases or work input is decreases than
performance of simple vapour compression cycle are increase.
Cop :

 This equation represents the maximum theoretical coefficient of

performance of any refrigeration cycle operating between cold and hot
regions at temperatures T c and T h repectivily.
Coefficient of performance of single
stage vapour compression cycle.
 A refrigerator used to produce refrigeration effect only.,that is, COP ref
