    Cyclones are swirling atmospheric disturbances that occur in tropical and temperate regions of the world. They are caused by regions of low atmospheric pressure surrounded by high pressure, resulting in powerful winds blowing in either an anticlockwise direction in the northern hemisphere or a clockwise direction in the southern hemisphere. Cyclones form when warm, moist air rises and condenses resulting in the release of latent heat that warms the surrounding air and causes further rising and condensation in a positive feedback loop.
