World Climate Zones: Terrestrial and Aquatic Biomes
Zones
Biomes are large distinct
complex of biodiversities that
are determined by the type of
climate and geography of the
region. The survival and health
of a biome and its inhabitants
depend on the ecological
relationships throughout the
world.
There are two fundamental
classifications of biome:
terrestrial and aquatic biomes.
Terrestrial Biome
F Pond
- Body of water shallow enough to support
rooted plants.
r

B - Bigger than a pond, and is too deep to
s Lakes
i support rooted plants except near the shore.

a Stream direction.

e - Are marshley areas where there is much
Wetland moisture in the soil.
r
- Bodies of saline water that compose a large
part of a planet’s hydrosphere.
- Contain the richest diversity of species.
Oceans (fewer species than in land).
- 4 regions: intertidal, pelagic, abyssal, and
M benthic.
B - Warm, clear, shallow ocean habitats that are
a
i rich in life.
r *fringing reefs – form coastlines.
o Reef **Barrier “ “ – parallel to shorelines.
i ***Coral atolls – ring of corals that grow on
m
n top of old, sunken volcanoes in the ocean.
e - Coastal area were freshwater from rivers and
e
stream mixes with saltwater in the ocean.
- Full of decaying plants and animals that
Estuaries makes the soil rich in nutrients, which makes
lot of plants grow and attracts more animals
also.
