What causes kidney failure?

In most cases, kidney failure is caused by other health problems that have
done permanent damage (harm) to your kidneys little by little, over time When
your kidneys are damaged, they may not work as well as they should.
This type of kidney failure is not always permanent. Your kidneys may go
back to normal or almost normal with treatment and if you do not have other
serious health problems.
Common Cause
• This type of kidney failure is called acute kidney injury or acute
renal failure. Common causes of acute renal failure include:

• 1. Heart attack
• 2. Illegal drug use and drug abuse
• 3. Not enough blood flowing to the kidneys
• 4. Urinary tract problems
Symptoms If Your Kidneys Are

People Risk For CKD

Some people are more at risk than others. Some things that
increase your risk for CKD include:

1. Diabetes
2. High blood pressure (hypertension)
3. Heart disease
4. Having a family member with kidney disease
5. Being African-American, Hispanic, Native American or Asian
6. Being over 60 years old
How can prevent CKD?
Living a healthy lifestyle can help prevent :

Follow a low-salt,
low-fat diet Exercise at least Limit alcohol Do not smoke
30 minutes on
most days of the
week

you need to track how much of certain nutrients you
take in, such as:
1.Calories
2.Protein
3. Fat
4. Carbohydrates
