IDENTIFICATION OF LOBBY LAYOUT AND EQUIPMENT


CHARACTERISTICS

• Lobby is the public area where guest enters the hotel . It gives
the first impression of the hotel .

• It should be beautiful as well as functional .

• It has reception, cashiers desk, GRE desk, Bell desk, Concierge


desk, lobby managers desk.

• Lobby has seating arrangement for the check in and check out
of hotel guests.

• Generally coffee shop and shopping areas are also situated on the
lobby level
RECEPTION AND ITS FUNCTIONS

• Sell guestrooms, register guests and assign guestrooms.

• Process future room reservations when there is no reservations department or


when the reservations department is closed.

• Coordinate guest’s services.

• Provide information about the hotel, the surrounding community and any
attractions or events of interest to guests.

• Maintain accurate room status information.

• Maintain guest accounts and monitor credit limits.

• Produce guest account statements and complete proper financial settlement.


CASHIER AND ITS FUNCTIONS

•Opening and maintaining of guest folio.

• Posting room charge in guest folio.

•Recording all credit charges in guest folio.

•Maintain guest accounts and monitor credit limits.

• Maintaining a record of the cash received from guest.

• Preparing bills at the time of checkout.

• Receiving cash/traveller cheques/ credit cards for account settlement.

• Organizing foreign currency exchange for the settlement of a guest account.


BELL DESK AND ITS FUNCTIONS

• Handling guest luggage at the time of arrival and departure.

• Escorting guest to their rooms on arrival.

• Providing information to guest about hotel facilities and services when


asked.

• Locating a guest in a specified area of the hotel.

• Posting guest mails.

• Keeping guest luggage in the left luggage room if requested by the guest.

• Deliver mail, packages, messages and special amenities to guestrooms.


CONCIERGE AND ITS FUNCTIONS

• Making reservation for dining in famous restaurant.

• Providing information on cultural and social events like photo exhibitions, art
shows, and local places of tourist interest.

• Obtaining tickets for theatres, musicals, sporting events, etc.

• Arranging for transportation by limousine, car, coaches, buses, airplanes, or trains.

• Concierge can also called as MAN-ABOUT-TOWN. Having good knowledge of the


city and main attractions in the surrounding area.

LOBBY AREA

 Hotel lobby represents the atmosphere ,decors , staff and image of the
hotel when a guest visit.

 Lobby should be spacious but not wasteful.

 The natural flow of the guest should be towards reception, cashier,


information counters, during guest arrival and departures.

 Sufficient space required to place the guest luggage.
