How did the red arrows work as a
team?
Why was it important?
4 Can I name a tissue?
Can I say where the tissue is
found?
5 Can I explain the function of a
tissue?

6 Can I explain how tissues work

together to make an organ
work, using an example?
Looking at the torso
Gather around the front bench so we can
look at how the organs fit within the
human body
Organ systems
• An organ system is made from a group of different organs,
which all work together to do a particular job.
• Here are some examples of organ systems:
1. circulatory system
2. respiratory system
3. digestive system
4. nervous system
5. reproductive system
6. leaf canopy
Organs
• An organ is made from a group of different
tissues, which all work together to do a particular
job.
• Here are some examples of organs:
1. heart
2. lung
3. stomach
4. brain
5. leaf
6. root
You should be able to explain what
tissues and organs are (level 5)
Tissues
• Animal cells and plant cells can form tissues, like
muscle tissue.
• A living tissue is made from a group of cells with a
similar structure and function, which all work
together to do a particular job.
• Here are some examples of tissues:
1. muscle
2. the lining of the intestine
3. the lining of the lungs
4. phloem (tubes that carry dissolved sugar around a
plant)
5. root hair tissue (for plants to take up water and
minerals from the soil)
You should be able to explain what
tissues and organs are (level 5)

What are organs made of?

Go around the room and look at the

different organs. What tissues are
they made of? Have a go at working
out what the functions of these
tissues might be
Extension
