SEMINAR ON
“SYNTHETIC RUBBER BASED
SUSPENSION SYSTEM”
• Springs:– supports the weight of the vehicle; permits the control arm
and Wheel to move up and down.
BASIC PARTS
• Shock absorbers or dampeners:- keeps the suspension
from continuing to bounce after spring compression and
extension
Independent
Suspension
SHOCK ABSORBER
• A shock absorber is a mechanical device designed to smooth out
or damp shock impulse, and dissipate kinetic energy.
• Limits spring compression-
extension movements to smooth the
vehicle’s ride.
• Without shock absorbers, the vehicle
would continue to bounce up and
down long after striking dip or hump
in the road.
STRUT ASSEMBLY
• Its is a independent suspension system
• Consists of a shock absorber, a coil spring, and an upper
damper unit.
• Strut assembly often replaces the upper control arm.
• The steering gear is either connected directly to the lower
shock absorber housing, or to an arm from the front or back of
the spindle.
• When you steer, it physically twists the strut and shock absorber
housing (and consequently the spring) to turn the wheel.
Strut assembly
(MacPherson struts)
SYNTHETIC RUBBER
• This system can be compressed by using a diaphragm instead of the fluid acting in the
control system. A 10mm of Hydrogenated Nitrile Butadiene rubber can be used as the
diaphragm. HNBR is widely known for its physical strength and retention of properties
after long-term exposure to heat, oil, and chemicals. Trade names include Zhanber,
Therban and Zetpol (Zeon Chemical)
• Depending on filler selection and loading, HNBR compounds typically have tensile
strengths of 20–31 MPa when measured at 23 °C. Compounding techniques allow for
HNBR to be used over a broad temperature range, −40 °C to 165 °C, with minimal
degradation over long periods of time.
• The unique properties and higher temperature rating attributed to HNBR when compared
to NBR have resulted in the wide adoption of HNBR in automotive, industrial, and
assorted, performance-demanding applications.
The use of 10mm HNBR right on top of the shock absorber
provides better comfort to the passenger and provides
stiffness at the time of shock for a longer duration. This is
also simple in design and efficient. The production rates will
be more and easy in this method.
Advantages:-
• Stamped construction
• Preassembled Strut body carries spring assembly
• Compact, Simple mounting and no need for an
upper control arm
• Reduction in fasteners and alignment ofvehicle
suspension components.
• L o w production costs.
