TONGA WAS FOUNDED BY KING GEORGE TUPO V. THE HISTORY OF TONGA
WAS RECORDED 900 BC. THE OLDEST SIGHT OF TONGA IS THE VILLAGE OF PEA
ON TONGATUPA. MOST OF THE OLDEST SITES ARE FOUND ON TONGATUPA.
NOT MUCH IS KNOWN ABOUT TONGA BEFORE EUROPEAN CONTACT BECAUSE
OF THE LACK OF WRITING SYSTEM. THE ONLY THINGS KNOWN ABOUT TONGA

Tonga is in Oceania. Tonga is an
archipelago in the South pacific
islands. Tonga has 169 islands.
People from Tonga are big, strong,
and athletic. A lot of Tongans play
the NFL or plays professional rugby.
98 percent of Tongas are pure
Polynesian. The population of
Tonga is 104,000. Tonga has kings
and prime ministers. The king has
control over the government.

RELIGION
Contemporary Tongans frequently
have strong ties to overseas lands.
Some of them would opt to
migrate in other countries like
Australia, New Zealand, and the
United States. Once missionaries
came to Tonga their culture
changed dramatically. Some of
their old beliefs and habits they just
threw away. The majority in

TONGAN INDUSTRY/
ECONOMY
Construction is the biggest industry
in Tonga. The next biggest is
manufacturing. Manufacturing is
important for trade, because they
manufacture those items for trade.
They are trade partners with New
Zeeland and Australia. If they
didn’t have trade Tonga wouldn’t
flourish. The source of trade helps
with their economy. Tonga gets a
lot of money from tourists.

LANGUAGE
In Tonga the words are spelled
how they sound. Some Tongans
speak English, that is there
secondary language. Their main
language is Polynesian. They use
the England alphabet. Polynesian
consists of about 30 languages.
Tonga speaks Maloyo-Polynesian.
About 1 million people speak
polonesian in the Polynesian
Pacific Islands.
TONGAN NATURE
Tonga is a beautiful country. It is
very tropical with beaches and
palm trees. Tonga has beautiful
flowers like Hibiscus and Frangipani.
Tonga was the first pacific islands
to open up a maritime park with
snorkeling, nice beaches, and
lagoons. Tonga has a lot if birds.
Tonga have great oceans with lots
of fish in them.
 OVERALL TONGA IS A GREAT
COUNTRY. THIS WAS A GOOD
PROJECT TO LEARN ABOUT TONGA.
