Big Bazaar- jo bazaar mein milta hai, who sab
yahan milta hai
• Introduced in 2001 by Pantaloon Retail ( india)
ltd.
• started in large cities and continued to tap
consumption potential in smaller cities Agra,
Allahabad,Panipat, Kanpur and Kolhapur.
• By 2008, there were 89 Big Bazaars spread
across various cities and towns.
Company Background
• Incorporated as Manz Wear private ltd in 1987
• It became a public limited company in 1991 and
was renamed Pantaloon fashions ( india) limited
and then Pantaloon Retail (india) ltd in 1999.
• Emphasized on backward integration in apparel
segment
• Launched successful brands- Pantaloon trouser,
Bare denims and John Miller shirts in between
1987 and 1993.

• It introduced the Pantaloon Shoppe and
expanded it across the country from 1994-1998
• It moved to large format lifestyle retailing with
launch of Pantaloons, India`s Family Store.
• Realizing that in retail size matters, Big bazaar
was launched in 2001.
• In short span of two years, it had added a food
bazaar and gold bazaar to its range of offerings
