Do I dare distrub

Day 2
Inquiry questions

• Let’s hear from 3-5 of you regarding your inquiry

questions from last class.
Our agenda
• Inquiry Questions

• Introduce Multimedia Project

• AS: Social Structures Questionnaire

• Social Structures Graphic Organizer

• “When Richer Marries Poorer” from the NY Times Series “Class Matters”

• Reading Log

• Journal 2: How does class differ in the texts we have read the last two class
periods?

• Summaries/Reflection/Inquiry

• HW: Journal 3: Explain your judgement of the differences in society?

Example, do you think it is healthy? Needs reform?
Our goals
• By the end of the period I will be able to:

• Take a stand on what I believe about social structures in my

society

• Share my reasoning about class issues and their validity

• Compare and contrast ideas on class based on what I have

read and my educated opinions
Introduction of Multimedia
projects
• You will be able to have time in class to work on
these.
• General rule of thumb in this class- unproductive
work days= loss of privilege of work days.
• Let’s review the handouts!
Social Structures
questionnaire
• Let’s see where you stand in your beliefs on certain
common “social structures.”
• Please wait for the entire class to finish.
• 1s will share with 3s. 2s with 4s. 5s with 6s.
• You may move QUICKLY to make this happen.
• Then let’s share out!
Reading purpose

• In the text “ When Richer Marries Poorer,” Tamar

Lewin reports on the struggles that a couple faces
coming from differing social classes. Using the
“Marking the Text” circle key terms and underline
what the sources say.
Appropriate strategy for
today
• How will I take cornell notes?

• As we read you may not mark the text; however you

may use post-it notes. Use post-its for the circled key
terms (circle them on the notes) and the claims.
• Again, today we are going to use post-it notes to
identify the author’s claims and key terms.
• You may make the choice to simply transfer these over
to cornell notes.
• Remember a claim is an arguable statement or assertion
made by the author (data, facts, or other backing should
support an authors assertion)
30 second expert
• Before we read, let’s scan the text. What do you
think this article is going to be about based on the
title and the subsections?
• Now partner up (1s with 6s, 5s with 4s, 3s with 2s).
• You will not all answer about your expertise for
each section. Please take turns sharing. You have
30 seconds for each topic to share your expertise.
This is sharing what you know about the subject.
• 1. Relationships
2. Class conflicts
3. Power
Let’s take the time to do
reading logs

• Please remember you must identify at least three

quotes and explain their significance.
• Trust me- you want to do this well. This will help
you later when we do our papers!
Journal 4

• How does the role of class in our society differ in

the texts we have read the last two class periods?
Summaries/reflections/inquir
ies

• Remember to take this time to summarize your CN

notes, reflect on your learning from the
goals/learning objectives, and create your inquiry
question for next class!
