INTRODUCTION :
.When hydro plant and one thermal plant together supplies power to a
centralized load then such system is called as hydro thermal system.

.In this hydro plant have low operating cost and high capital cost

.Whereas thermal plans have low capital cost and high operating cost

.To minimize operating cost of hydro thermal plant it is necessary to

minimize the operating cost of thermal plant.
OPERATION & WORKING:

.Operation of a system becomes complex when two different

stations supply power to a centralized load

.Hydro plant and thermal plant are inter connected on the same grid

.The proper scheduling of hydro thermal station is necessary to minimize

the total cost of generation .

.Thermal plant is used as a base load and hydro plant is used as a

peak load.
TYPES:

 Long Range Scheduling

 Multi storage and cascaded hydro electric system
 Multi chain hydro electric system
Short Range Scheduling
Constant head hydro thermal scheduling
Variable head hydro thermal scheduling
Advantages :
 Low Initial investment m Expenses supervision, operation and maintenance are
low
The supply to the consumers will be more reliable
Combined operation of hydro thermal plants, the requirement of spinning reserve
is reduced
In case, if any of the plant fails to supply the low demand then the other plant can
be used, therefore complete shutdown of power can be avoided
The main advantage of suystem is the load can be economically shared
Effective use of transmission line service is obtained at high voltages.
CONCLUSION:
The main aim of hydro thermal load scheduling is to the reduce the
overall cost per unit.
