INTRODUCTION
 To relieve excess pressure in the system
 To relieve excess vacuum in the system
 To protect the system and people from
possible hazardous pressure or vacuum
TYPES OF SAFETY VALVES
 Low lift - disc lift 1/8” of nozzle dia
 High lift – disc lift 1/6” of nozzle dia
 Full lift – disc lift ¼” of nozzle dia

 SAFETY VALVE
 Opens rapidly to full open condition.
 Used for gas or vapour
 RELIEF VALVE
 Opens in proportion to the increasing pressure
 Used for liquid service

SET PARAMETERS
 SET PRESSURE
 Pressure at which valve pop ups
 RE SET PRESSURE
 Pressure at which valve closes again
 BLOW DOWN
 Difference between Set and Reset
pressures.
BLOW DOWN &
NOZZLE RING

 To adjust blow down

 In line with disc will
give maximum BD
 Raising decreases BD
 Lowering increases BD
 Lower BD will induce
chattering
 Nozzle ring – Used for
sharp pop up – used to
adjust simmering
