BACK GROUND
• Electronic cigarettes were first created for the general public in 2003 by Hon Lik who was
a Chinese pharmacist. He originally created them to be a safer and easier way for people
to stop smoking. The ingredients most commonly found in the E-juice are vegetable
glycerin, distilled water, flavoring, and nicotine. Because of the innocent looking ingredients
and the array of flavors available many underaged people have started using them not to
help with tobacco cessation, but to use recreationally. Due to this, a lot more medical
studies have been conducted and scientists are starting to believe that E-cigarettes aren’t
actually as safe as once thought.

HEALTH RISKS Systemic Health Risks:
Decreases immune system
function
Increase your risk of heart disease
Impacts the health of your lungs
BRUXISM AND HALITOSIS
• What is Bruxism?
- Bruxism is the grinding of teeth. It can cause major damage to
teeth and cause sensitivity.
• How does vaping relate?
- Nicotine stimulates the muscles so it could increase the
severity of grinding if you already have this habit.
• What is Halitosis?
- Bad breath
• How does vaping relate?
- Saliva naturally combats bad breath, but nicotine can inhibit
saliva production
GINGIVITIS
• What is Gingivitis?
- Gingivitis is a form of Periodontal Disease (gum disease).
Some symptoms of gingivitis are red gums, bleeding, swelling,
and sensitive gums. If left untreated it could progress to a
more severe type of gum disease, but can usually be reversed
with good home care and frequent professional cleanings.
• What is Periodontitis?
- Periodontitis is a severe form of periodontal disease (gum
disease). It has a lot of the same symptoms as gingivitis,
but periodontal disease caused attachment loss, bone
loss, and gingival recession. Bone loss can lead to tooth
loss. Also, periodontitis is not reversible and often
requires oral surgery to treat.
• Heart Disease:
- People who vape are 40% more likely to get heart disease than
someone who doesn’t. More research is needed to find the what
is causing the increased risk but it is associated.
• Decreased Immune Function:
- Nicotine impairs the function of our immune cells that help
our bodies fight off bacteria. It also can slow down the production of
white blood cells which also are apart of our immune system. Because
of this, vaping can make people more susceptible to diseases
