What is writing?

Writing is a medium of human communication that


represents language and emotion with signs and symbols.
In most languages, writing is a complement to speech
or spoken language.
What is Academic writing?
The process of breaking down ideas
using deductive reasoning, formal,
voice, and third person point-of-view.
Also, it is clear, concise, focussed,
structured and backed up by
evidence. Its purpose is to aid the
reader’s understanding.

 Planned and focused: Academic writing is well
planned. It usually takes place after research and
evaluation, according to a specific purpose and plan.
 Structured: is coherent, written in a logical order, and

 Brainstorming: Brainstorming refers to quickly writing down or taking


inventory of all your thoughts as fast as they come to you.
 Freewriting: It is similar to a brainstorming. However, where brainstorming
often looks more like a list of ideas, freewriting usually takes the shape of
more formal sentences.
 Clustering or mind mapping: clustering have the central word in a circle,
with all the associated words in their own circles and lines connecting them
back to the central word.
 Question-Asking: writers write down all questions that seem relevant to
their material.
