DEFINITION

Acute and diffuse inflammatory process of the pancreas that can


compromise neighboring tissues and organs and even trigger
dysfunction of organs and systems.
TYPES
 There are two types of acute pancreatitis:

MILD ACUTE (EDEMATOUS) PANCREATITIS SEVERE ACUTE (NECROTIC) PANCREATITIS.

− Minimal organic dysfunction − It is associated with multiple organ failure and /


or local complications
− Complete recovery of the pancreas
such as: necrosis, abscesses, pseudocyst.
− Without complications
− Usually requires surgical treatment
− Usually requires pharmacological treatment
CAUSES

−Cholelithiasis
−Alcoholism
−Surgical procedures (cpre)
−Traumatism (blow on the upper left side)
−Infections: viral, bacterial
−Drugs (metronidazole)
−Vascular diseases
SYMPTOM
DIAGNOSIS
1. CLINIC:
• acute abdominal pain
• nausea and vomiting
• abdominal distension
2. LABORATORY DIAGNOSIS:
• Amylase and lipase: pancreatic enzymes >3 times of its nominal value
3. DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING:
• Axial computed tomography with contrast
• Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancretography
PREVENTION
 Avoid consumption of alcohol and highly spiced foods.
 Eat a balanced diet.
 Avoid eating too many fatty foods with a high cholesterol content.
 Keep a healthy weight.
 Physical activity for at least 30 min daily or interdiaries.
TREATMENT
I. Analgesics against pain (buscapina)
II. IV solutions and colloids to conserve intravascular volume normal
III. Absolute fasting.
