Overview
What is Science?
What is science?
Science
is the study of natural
phenomena.
So, what do you understand about
natural phenomena?
Can you give a few examples?
Natural phenomena
are events that
occur on their own
(naturally) in our
surroundings. Is flash flooding a natural phenomena?
Communication
• The development of satellites allow live telecast of events
• The development of smart phones allow us to be connected to every
corner of the world
Agriculture
• Hydroponic method allows the growing of plants without soil
• Invention od better fertilizers and higher quality seeds increases yield of
crops.
Importance of Science in Everyday Life
Construction
• Buildings can be made more resistant to earthquakes and this
saves more lives.
• Taller buildings can be build with development of stronger
constructions and creative designs.
Transportation
• Travel time has been cut short with the development of
aeroplanes that fly longer distances (Example: Non-stop flight
from Auckland, New Zealand to Doha, Qatar takes 17 hours
30 minutes for a distance of 14,539 km’s)
• Beijing - Shanghai High Speed Railway, Jinghu High Speed
Railway for short, finishes the 1,318km's distance between the
two cities in 4.5 hours.
