Object Of
Summer Training
Application of knowledge and techniques learnt in the
classroom to real
field problems and to test out and enrich one’s understanding,
knowledge and skills.

Gives an insight into the working of the real sites.

Gaining deeper understanding in specific functional areas.

Appreciating the linkages among different functions.

Helps in exploring career opportunities in their areas of interest.

Introduction
Maldhanchaur–Shivnathpur-Mohannagar road
construction with culvert was sanctioned in 2013
but after interfair of forest department 5Km road
work obstructed.In 2017 Forest department
sanctioned approval and finally in 2018 the road
work started. The cost of the project is
144.10lakhs and loan in this project is 84lakhs.In
estimating the road work three coat provision can
included but by the intelligency of pwd
engineers, they can do same changes like they
apply only one coat and use two coat money to
contract retaining wall and culvert for future
reference.
BOX CULVERT

BRIDGES
A bridge is a structure having a total length above 6m
between the inner face of the dirt.
Classified as:
Minor Bridges – Span greater than 6m upto 60m
Major Bridges – Span greater than 60m
CULVERT
A culvert is a cross-drainage structure having a total
lengthof 6m or less between the inner
The types of culverts are:
Box Culvert
Pipe Culvert
RCC Solid Slab Culvert
Components of Box
Culverts
 Bottom Slab
 Vertical walls
 Deck Slab
 Wing Wall
 Curtain wall
 Earth Retainer
Materials Used
In Construcion
 Cement (OPC 43 grade)
 Coarse aggregate (20mm)
 Fine aggregate(sand)
 Super plasticizer
 Steel (fe 500, rubbed bars,TMT)
 Shuttering (couplar,box channel)

Equipme
nt Used :
Backhoe and dozer

Tilting mixer

Reinforcing cutting tool

Auto level

Needle Vibrator
Laboratory
Tests:
 Compressive Strength Test

 Aggregate : 1. Impact value

 2. Crushing value
3. Los angles
4. Pycnometer test
 Sand : Sieve Anaylysis
liquid limit

Specific gravity indicates amount of water

that an sample can absorb in its pore
Field
Test :
 Slump cone test : 150mm slump

 Layout of any culvert using Auto Level.

 Chainage : It is distance travelled along a survey line

starting from a fixed commenced point.
 Building of Dungarpur Railway Station is starting point
i.e. chainage is 0 at dungarpur railway station.
 Slope is provided at layout time by fixing center
chainage of culvert.
Concrete Mix
Design :
 IS 10262 : 2009
 M35 concrete is to be designed.
 Slump required- 125mm-150mm
 Admixture : Super –Plasticizer
 Crushed Angular Aggregate
 W/C ratio :0.4
 NOTE : For getting desired slump content of admixture can’t be
increased we have to redesign concrete in that case.
Layout of Construction

 For establishing location of any bridge we are given

center line chainage of the given bridge.

 Now from Gps survey we can determine the center

point location.

 For providing better drainage slope of 1 in 100 is

provided but slope is provided before construction of
superstructure.

 By turning Autolevel through various angles we can

plot layout of our bridge.
Basics of Bar
Bending
Schedule.
 Cutting Length : It is the length reduced at the bends
of 90 degree and 45 degree.
For 90 degree- 2d
For 45 degree – 1d
 No. of bars (+1)
 In the wing wall length of each bar is different and is
calculated by considering slope of wall.(curtailment
 Chairs, Key, Shear link up bars.
 Cover (50mm)
Execution
of
 200mm thick sand layer.
constructio
 150mm thick pcc base course (M20).
n:
 Survey after sand and p.c.c layer also to check bed slope.

 Pouring of concrete not with a height greater than 1.5 m

 Shuttering load(450mm)
 150mm thick boulder outside bridge.
 Range of vibrator
 150mm thick wearing course at bed level.
Earth filling
:
 Burms

 Filling slope

 Compaction after every 400mm layer of filling

 Core cutter test to check dry density after each layer.

 Cutting by explosions
Structural Analysis
 Loads considered are :
Dead loads
Live loads
Dynamic effects
Seismic force
Earth pressure
Surcharge pressure
 By moment distribution method we can analyze.
 Loading is calculated by considering 25t loading IRS 2008
