PIPERACK - PURPOSE
Pipe rack is the main artery of any oil & gas or refinery plants. This carries
the pipes and cable trays from one equipment to another equipment
within a process unit or carries the pipe and cable trays from one unit to
another unit. Some times you will also find the AIR COOLED HEAT
EXCHANGERS on the pipe rack

• To support the Process / Utility / Flare Pipe lines at required elevation

• To support the PS Values /other type of Valves

• To support the Air cooler / Equipments

• To support the Cable Trays for (EIT) at required elevation

PIPERACK DESIGN CONCEPTS

PIPERACK - TYPES

1. Based on material

a) Steel Piperack

b) Concrete / Precast Piperack

2. Based on Usage

a) Piperack

b) Technological Structure

c) Pipe Bridge

d) Pipetrack

e) Pipesleeper

PIPERACK – GENERAL ARRANGEMENT

• Length of each module shall be preferably between 30m to 42m

• Distance between consecutive Module preferably 6m

• Transverse frame (4.0m to 10.0m)

• Piperack with single bay – Transverse Vertical Bracing Arrangement

• Piperack more than one bay – Transverse Vertical Bracing Arrangement

• Plan bracing & Longitudinal bracing shall be provided in centrally as far

as possible

PIPERACK DESIGN CONCEPTS

PIPERACK – GENERAL ARRANGEMENT

• For Piperack which are 5m wide or more, a central longitudinal tie beam
shall be provided at each tier

• Longitudinal tie beam and plan bracing shall be lowered to suite the pipe
supports

• Cable tray support shall be at every 3m.

• Clear height for man Access shall be 2.1m

• Clear height for Forklift movement shall be 3.0m

• Minimum platform landing width shall be 1.0m to 1.2m
