DRIVE TESTING METHODS

PROBLEMS AND SOLUTION

CASE I - SITE DOWN (OUTAGE) / INVISIBLE

 Get in to the site (whether it’s new or existing), and constantly refer
to the TEMS Pocket hardware display

 If the parameters BCCH, BSIC, etc. are not shown, the site status is,

- does not exist or down

- site has not been integrated or
- site’s CGI has not been defined in the BSC

 If the BCCH is not known or no site data (for e.g. .cel file) has been
provided, reach exact position of the site, either near to the tower or
under the antenna

 Ensure serving cell coverage, the Rxlev is good ( around -40 dBm)
CASE II - CHECKING HANDOVERS

 For checking handover, make sure you’ve been camped on the

serving BCCH of the Sector A

 See the neighbouring list, if Sector B appears, specify the driving

route. Start the drive test in dedicated mode. The handover should
occur along this drive test

 Perform all the above at opposite route, i.e. start from Sector B to
Sector A

 Possible issues and problems can be,

- the neighbour not appearing, possibility that it has’nt been created
- there’s other site in between or any obstacle causing obstruction
CASE III - SWAP FEEDERS / SECTOR SWAP / ROTATED

 Swap feeder occur when the installation switch by mistake, for

example the feeder of Sector A connected to Sector B or C

 For example, if we have a site with 2 sectors, with a road in front of

it, that has to be covered, we must have the BCCH of each sectors
(from .cel file)

 Start the drive test from sector A to sector B. While we’re in Sector A
coverage, check if the BCCH of serving cell is the correct one,
according to the site data provided by the operator/vendor

 Perform the drive test again or continue the route from opposite end,
i.e. from sector B coverage to Sector A

 For a 03 sectored site, check all BCCH of three sectors

CASE IV - OVERSHOOTING

 When we get the signal from the site that is not close to the current
area of drive test, the cell is said to be overshooting

 Usually we get bad RxQual and higher TA values

 We can suspect this as an overshoot case. This case happen when

a site/cell is serving far away from its intended area or coverage

 Overshooting also results in dropped calls and cause Inteference on

the near-by sites

 Check the height of all RF sectors, along with their Mech and Elec.
