Adaptive Robot Path Planning Using a

Spiking Neuron Algorithm with
Axonal Delays
Learning is achieved by
modulating the time delay for
pre neuron spike to reach the
post neuron
4
More on Axonal Delays
o Recent evidence suggests that the myelin
sheath, which wraps around and insulates
axons, undergoes a form of activity-
dependent plasticity

o Myelin sheath becomes thicker with

learning motor skills and cognitive tasks.

o A thicker myelin sheath implies faster

conduction velocities and improved
synchrony between neurons.

Biologically plausible learning algorithm !!

Learning Rule: 𝚫𝒅𝒊𝒋 = 𝜼 × (𝒎𝒂𝒑𝒙,𝒚 − 𝒅𝒊,𝒋 )

For Example : 𝜂 = 1

Δ𝑑1 = 1 × 8 − 5 = 3
𝑚𝑎𝑝(𝑥, 𝑦)

Results

8
Gaps
o Extremely simple neuron model used
o AER based architecture
o Read out process required to get the optimum path
o Can we use STDP to solve this problem? (Polychronization)
o No demonstration of dynamic adaptation
