Scenario of HYDRO POWER in World

As per the survey carried out by National Renewable Energy Laboratory, total
electric power production capacity of all the hydroelectric power plants
throughout the world is 6,75,000 MW. This combined capacity can produce 2.3
trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year. This huge power is good enough
to fulfill electricity demands of more than one billion people of the world or
almost 24% population of the entire world.

 Fishing
Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages Disadvantages

 No fuel is required to be burnt to generate electricity  High installation cost

 Gestation period is large
 Low running cost
 Environmental effect
 No disposal of ash as in a thermal power plant
 Power generation depends on
 Start up and shut down in a very short time availability of water

 Greater life expectancy
