What is Respiration?
Respiration is the process by
which organisms use
oxygen to break down food
molecules to get chemical
energy for cell functions.
Respiratory System
Problems of respiratory system
Some of the common
disorders are:
Common cold
Pneumonia
Asthma
Common cold
The common cold is a viral
infection of your nose and throat
(upper respiratory tract). It's
usually harmless, although it
might not feel that way. Many
types of viruses can cause
a common cold.
Pneumonia
Pneumonia is swelling (inflammation) of
the tissue in one or both lungs. It's usually
caused by a bacterial infection.
At the end of the breathing tubes in your
lungs are clusters of tiny air sacs. If you
have pneumonia, these tiny sacs
become inflamed and fill up with fluid
Asthma
Asthma is a chronic disease of the
airways that makes breathing
difficult. With asthma, there is
inflammation of the air passages that
results in a temporary narrowing of
the airways that carry oxygen to the
lungs.
