 Summary
OBJECTIVES

 By the end of the lesson, each student will be able

to:
1. name at least four things that floats and sinks
correctly after the activity
2. give reasons why football floats on water in
their own words after the teachers’ explanation
3. design an experiment to check which objects
floats and sinks without disturbing the friends.
FLOATING

 Any object that stays on the surface of

the liquid is Floating.
 Example:

A ball floating on the water.

A toy duck flowing on the water.
A ball floating on the water
A toy duck floating on the water
SINKING

 Any object that goes down below the

surface of the liquid is Sinking.
 Example;

A brick will sink in the water.

A coin will sink in the water.
DENSITY

 Density is the amount of mass per

unit of volume.
 Heavier the object, higher the density.
Iron sinks in water because its density is
greater than the density of water.
 When a body is in a liquid, there are
two forces acting on it namely, a force
acting downwards which is equal to its
weight and an upward force equal to
the weight of the liquid displaced by
the body. The body will float when
these two forces are equal.
 The oil always floats to the top as it is less dense
than water.
 Oil and water don't mix because water molecules
are more attracted to each other than to oil
molecules.
 Detergent molecules are attracted to both water
and oil.
 Oil has a lower density than water, so it
always floats on top
ACTIVITY

 Record your random observation in your

notebook.
Things Sink or Float

Example; Eraser Sink
