Consider the beam clamped on the left side and has a point force of 8kN

acting downward on the right end of the beam. The beam has a length of 4
meters, width of 0.346 meters and height of 0.346 meters (cross-section
is a square). Beam is composed of a material which has a Young's Modulus
of 2.8x10^10 Pa. Using ANSYS Static structural, calculate the following:

Take Poisson ratio 0.4

1. Deformation of the beam


2. Maximum bending stress along the beam
3. Bending moment along the beam
• Consider the classic example of a circular hole in a rectangular plate of constant
thickness. The plate is A514 steel with a modulus of elasticity of 29e6 psi and a
Poisson ratio of 0.3. The thickness of the plate is .2 in., the diameter of the hole
is .5 in., the length of the plate is 10 in. and the width of the plate 5 in., as the
figure below indicates.
